Video: Single, "leftover" Chinese Women

Video: The Single Women of China

This 4-minute film is a powerful statement from single women in China who are rebelling against being called “leftover women” because they’re not married and refuse to be pressured by family and their culture to end their single status.

In China, a single woman over the age of 25 is called “sheng nu,” which means” leftover woman.” It’s the prevalent attitude among her family and her culture. This short documentary was created by Chinese skin care company SK-II in an effort to empower women to re-brand themselves in a positive way — to see themselves as independent and able to choose a life that suits them best. Click on the close caption “CC” button found in the menu bar at the bottom of the video window to see the subtitles in English.
