On Saturday, July 11 we’re getting together to enjoy a potluck picnic at 2 p.m. followed by a 3:30 p.m. performance of “To Kill a Mockingbird” at Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum, a beautiful outdoor theater nestled in a park-like setting in the Topanga Canyon woods.
The regular price for the “lower tier” tickets (closer to the stage) is $39.50 plus service fee, but if you are among the first 20 SingularCity members to RSVP, your ticket is just $22 including the service fee.
The theater is an L.A. favorite. Check out the reviews on Yelp. As one reviewer writes: “You feel hugged by trees and love. It’s hard to believe you’re still in Los Angeles County up there. Come to reconnect with nature and the arts!”
The play we will see is based on the Pulitzer-prize winning book by Harper Lee, “To Kill A Mockingbird.” The story is set in a small Southern town during the Great Depression. The idyllic childhood of eight-year-old Scout and her brother Jem is changed forever when their lawyer father defends a poor black man accused of raping a young white woman. Through the drama of the trial and its aftermath, the children experience the harsh realities of racial prejudice. The telling of the loss of innocence comes to the stage with all the warmth and poignancy of the beloved novel.
This event is open to everyone and if you can’t make it on the date we’re going, there are plenty of other performances. Click here to see the Theatricum schedule and to purchase regular priced tickets.
We will meet in the picnic area at 2 p.m. (near the snack bar) for the potluck picnic. Singular will provide cold drinks.
Parking on the grounds is $5 but there is plenty of free parking alongside Topanga Canyon Blvd.
The theater address is 1419 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd Topanga, CA 90290.
