Kick-off party for the Found Animals Foundation’s hot guys calendar, with photos of men and their pet cats, proves you don’t have to be a single lady to love felines.
I found out where all the cute guys in Los Angeles are – at The Abbey at 692 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood. There’s just one problem if you’re a singular gal – they’re all gay. Okay, maybe not all gay, but really, who cares because I, like everyone else, had a great time at the launch party for the 6 Packs/9 Lives 2012 wall calendar that features 14 gorgeous men photographed with their pet cats.
The calendar was the brainchild of Found Animals, a privately funded, Los Angeles based non-profit animal welfare organization that wants the world to know you don’t have to be a crazy cat lady to love cats – something we singulars know, but for those numerous dimwits who see the world through a myriad of stereotypes, may not. The organization hopes the calendar will inspire people to get out there and adopt a cat in 2012.
Award-winning fashion and beauty photographer, Adam Bouska of the “No H8” campaign, shot the calendar and Found Animals will be donating 100 percent of all proceeds from sales generated by their website to low-cost spay and neuter initiatives in Los Angeles. The calendar is sold in retail outlets for $9.99 and you can order it online.
The kick-off event at The Abbey featured a “cat-walk-off” with 12 shirtless hunks vying to be crowned “hottest month.” Rhea Litre, a drag queen (dressed as cat woman, of course), served as mistress of ceremonies as guests enjoyed the signature cocktail for the evening: “Cat on a Hot Gin Roof.”
“We were trying to figure out a way to let more people know that, contrary to the stereotype, there are lots of men who do like cats,” says Aimee Gilbreath, Executive Director of Found Animals. “In fact, there are more cats owned by people than dogs. On the other hand, 75 percent of all animals that are euthanized are cats.”
Hey, with Christmas coming up, what could be a more perfect stocking stuffer? A calendar, a cat and maybe even a man to clean the litter box.
