To celebrate Valentine’s Day, or rather to enjoy it despite all the usual couples hype, members of the SingularCity singles network enjoyed dinner together at supperclub los angeles, a luxury dining experience that features unique “recline and dine” seating on a white-on-white sea of over-sized cushions that are more like beds than tables and chairs.

With a SingularCity hijacks Valentine’s Day theme, the night featured a prix fixe, 4-course gourmet dinner, welcome shot and champagne all enjoyed as Zen Arts – a fusion of live performance art, burlesque, cirque, music and fashion all rolled into one – danced, twirled, sashayed and even descended from the ceiling in a shower of red rose petals and silver sparkles.

The edgy nightclub and restaurant is located in the historic Vogue Theatre at 6675 Hollywood Blvd, now remodeled for its reincarnation as supperclub. The outdoor marque is about all that remains of its previous life, although if you look closely, you can see the framework of what was once the movie theater that first opened in the summer of 1935.

This particular Valentine’s night, guests were welcomed at the front door by the master, or should we say, mistress of ceremonies with a shaved head, thick false eyelashes, high-heeled boots and “queen of hearts” leotard pants.

Entering the venue, the first stop was the former popcorn concession to down a “love potion” welcome shooter before entering the Le Bar Rouge, the sexy bar and lounge area. When the time was right, red velvet drapes opened to reveal a 3-story, multi-level dining and dancing area with the all-white over-sized chaise lounge seating, and a bevy of beautifully costumed and nearly naked dancers from Zen Arts began their magical performance.

As guests took off their shoes and climbed onto the comfy beds, the DJ played dance music and the dinner, featuring the cuisine of executive chef Guss Wickenhagen, appeared, starting with a first course of Hearts of Palm Salad, Seared Ahi, Pita Chips & Harrissa – all washed down with plentiful champagne. The first course was followed with a creamy smooth potato and celery soup and then the main course: a charbroiled beef tenderloin topped with a sun-dried tomato ravioli in lobster sauce. For desert: chocolate fondue.

“I thought it was great and sexy,” said SingularCity member and entrepreneur Sienna Sinclaire. “I felt like I was in a club in Europe. It’s a great idea for a first date as you’ll have something to talk about.” She added that she thought supperclub was great all around because it’s so different from anything in LA. “It may be expensive for some, but you have to remember that you’re paying extra for the entertainment – oh, and I loved the DJ who played 70s and 80s music!”

Part of an international luxury brand, supperclub first opened in Amsterdam. Nowadays you can find a supperclub in San Francisco, London, Istanbul and even in Alacati, an Aegean town on the western coast of Turkey.

Dinner at supperclub is by reservation only and there is one seating per evening on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm. Following dinner, at approximately 10:30 pm, supperclub is transformed into a nightclub. A rotating roster of star DJs take the helm and a long line of clubbers enter the building to dance the night away.

SingularCity member and freelance creative director Nadia Dulyn said, “It’s a totally unique experience that’s perfect for an off-the-beaten-path date or wildly entertaining group outing. I’m definitely coming back.”

Singer/songwriter Richard Honig, a new member of SingularCity said he liked the bed-like seating arrangement. “They were very comfortable and made it feel like we were lounging in somebody’s living room. We all cozied together in a casual, low-key relaxed setting. I felt like I was in a 5-star hotel being catered to with food and drink — all dropped into the middle of a circus. It’s a totally unique environment and perfect for group gatherings or couples to experience something outside the norm.”

Music publishing executive Rock Elliot agreed.  “I liked the beds. They created a very relaxed and social vibe. Overall, a fun yet classy experience. I would do it again.”
