Rock singer performs at the Viper Room in West Hollywood to launch her spring 2012 Abbey Dawn collection in partnership with online shoe store JustFabulous.
The pink carpet dazzled on the Sunset Strip just in front of The Vipor Room, a Hollywood music venue — formerly owned by actor Johnny Depp — where celebrity sightings are common. The popular nightclub was closed to the public, but open to a handful of Hollywood elite invited to the JustFabulous launch party celebrating its new partnership with Avril Lavigne’s clothing line, Abbey Dawn.
Inside The Vipor Room, the Abbey Dawn shoe and handbag line took over the entire bar with the debut of featured items available exclusively at JustFab.com, including 12 shoes and 5 bags ranging from spiked leopard-print heels to skull-buckled ankle boots to vintage-print handbags — all creatively inspired by Lavigne’s personal style.
“It’s feminine, it’s sexy … it’s rock ‘n’ roll,” said the singular global pop star and fashion entrepreneur. “It’s a brand you can really express yourself in, and dress up and down. I’m so in love with it, and I wear it all the time.” Formerly known for her tomboyish style, Avril Lavigne’s clothing line retains the same degree of edge she’s always had, but with a classier, ladylike undertone.
Outside the Hollywood hotspot, photographers, reporters and paparazzi all lined up along the carpeted sidewalk waiting patiently for the celebrity guests to arrive. Some of the more experienced photographers brought footstools to get the best pictures, while reporters used their rapport with certain PR reps to get exclusive interviews with select stars. One of the first celebrities to walk the pink carpet was Mena Suvari (“American Reunion”) rocking the strappy Metal Head stilettos. Kimora Lee Simmons, president of JustFabulous, donned the black studded WTH pumps, while the rock fashion icon herself sported a pair of Pretty Please open toe heels with crisscross straps.
Additional celebrity guests in attendance included former “Gossip Girl” Taylor Momsen looking extra gothic, George Kotsiopoulos from “Fashion Police” and L.A. Reed from “X-Factor.” Even Lavigne’s former husband, Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley showed up with his freakishly tall girlfriend to congratulate Lavigne on her latest business venture. Lavigne’s most recent love interest, Brody Jenner, was nowhere to be found after the two reportedly called it quits in January.
The evening’s launch party event included a special acoustic performance by Lavigne as she rocked the house, packed to capacity, singing some of her biggest hits, including “My Happy Ending” and “Girlfriend.” One can’t help but wonder whether those particular song selections had anything to do with the “Complicated” relationships she seems to have with her exes. They are reported to be friends now and were spotted a few weeks earlier bonding over drinks at a Los Angeles bar.
After Lavigne’s effortless vocal performance, the remaining guests enjoyed an open bar, cotton candy appetizers and a flipbook photo booth, but Avril herself made a quick departure after her set. The Vipor Room cleared out rather quickly once everyone made an appearance to show their new shoes and support, with the exception of Kimora Lee Simmons and the JustFabulous event staff who continued to celebrate. Departing guests received a complimentary gift bag consisting of an Abbey Dawn purse and a gift card to purchase one new item from JustFab.com.
