It was easy for me, when I divorced my husband, I told him I was taking the dog. I told him I didn’t want the dog to get cancer because of his smoking. Whether or not that’s a fact, it didn’t really matter. His reasoning was based on me having the dog safety. I did most of the walking, poop scooping, playing with, etc., therefore, I got the dog.
His mother called me a year later telling me about his dating challenges and he still having feeling for me then said he wanted to see the dog. I said no because I didn’t want to confuse her son or offer false hope.
The dog (Opie) and I had 16 wonderful years together.
