Singular magazine is the WPA’s Best New Publication of the Year.
Singular magazine was recognized with top honors in magazine publishing at the 58th Annual Maggie Awards, Friday night at the Westin Hotel in Los Angeles. Known as the “Oscars of the magazine industry,” the Maggie Awards are presented by the Western Publishing Association and are one of the publishing industry’s most prestigious awards. Nominated for nine Maggie awards, Singular won three including “Best Single Editorial Enhanced Photo,” “Best Series of Editorial Photographs,” and “Best New Publication.”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled,” said Co-Founder and Editorial Director Kim Calvert. “This has been a dream come true for me, and I’m delighted that our editorial and design efforts have been honored in such a great way. I’m proud to share this honor with my editorial team and the very talented writers and photographers that have contributed to our success.”
Singular competed against other award-winning publications like Emmy magazine, Sactown, San Francisco, Arizona Highways and Sunset. For the “Best Single Editorial Enhanced Photograph” award, Singular submitted a digitally-enhanced image by Los Angeles photographer Scott Morgan. The photograph, of local tri-athlete Loren Uscilowski, was one in a series of images, featuring six “singular” Los Angeles-based athletes. The surrounding feature article was conceived by and written by Calvert. All six photographs were also recognized with the “Best Series of Editorial Photographs” Maggie Award. Singular also won for “Best New Publication” — one of the top three awards presented.
David Wright, co-founder and publisher of Singular said, “Our editorial team has done an outstanding job of creating a magazine that has a strong relationship with a devoted audience. It’s great to be recognized and honored by the publishing industry in such a wonderful way. Our advertisers will be thrilled to hear about these awards.”
