If there’s one group of people who have raised the collective eyebrow of society more than any other, it’s those singular iconoclasts who have chosen to buck social conventions and never marry — not even once. PART IV.

By Janice Cable

This series, exclusively for SingularCity, takes a look at the few, the proud, the never-married, and how they illustrate throughout history, a life without marriage can bring singular satisfaction.

Hugh Grant

The Never Marrieds - Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant, 48, the British actor best known for being the quintessentially charming and disarming bachelor may in fact be a quintessentially charming and disarming bachelor. Linked publicly with captivating women, Grant had long-term relationships — and amicable breakups — with both model-turned-actress Liz Hurley and socialite-turned-actress Jemima Khan. Even that infamous one-night dalliance with transvestite prostitute Divine Brown couldn’t change the impression that Grant seems to navigate the choppy celebrity dating waters with the easygoing charm of a latter-day Cary Grant. With a legendarily prickly exterior and a reluctance for publicity, Grant has an admirable predilection for arch, even acidic pronouncements, such as when he admitted a few years ago, “Women are frightening. If you get to 41 as a man, you’re likely to be quite battle-scarred.”

Condoleezza Rice

The Never Marrieds - Condoleezza Rice

Love her, hate her, agree with her policies or abhor them, people come together on two points about Condoleezza Rice. First, they marvel at her amazing achievements, and second, they wonder about her love life. Rice was raised in very segregated Alabama by her minister father and teacher mother, and she was also raised to excel. At 15, Rice graduated from high school; at 19, she graduated from college. She received her master’s degree in political science, and at 26, her Ph.D. In 1983, Rice was hired by Stanford University and at 39 became its youngest provost —not to mention becoming its first black, and first female, provost. In 2005, she became secretary of state under George W. Bush. On top of that, she’s a concert pianist, an avid football fan, gets up at 5 a.m. to work out six days a week (usually to classic rock along the lines of Cream or Zeppelin) and has never been married. She is, however, quite fond of football players. Of late, Rice has been seen in the company of Gene Washington, former player and now the NFL’s director of operations. In a 2006 interview with Katie Couric, Rice said, “I’ve just never particularly wanted to get married to someone.

The Never Marrieds - The Wright BrothersThe Wright Brothers

Oh, those daring young men and their flying machines! It is sort of easy to give Wilbur and Orville Wright a pass when it comes to their lifelong disinterest in getting married. After all, they occupied themselves for more than 20 years with the small matter of designing and building the world’s first heavier-than-air aircraft, an endeavor that culminated in the Wright Flyer’s first flight in 1906. Though separated by four years (Wilbur was the elder), many who knew them said they were essentially twins and spent vast amounts of time in each other’s company. Wilbur once said that he “could not support a wife and a flying machine,” but the likely truth is that lack of money had little to do with his decision to remain single; the brothers simply found all the stimulation they needed in the combination of air, wood, gas and physics. Neither brother seemed distressed by being single, and both remained unrepentant bachelors for the rest of their lives.

Cameron Diaz

The Never Marrieds - Cameron Diaz

Diaz is that all-American outdoor dream girl, a girl who can throw a football or a punch, catch a wave or a bouquet, make a joke or a pass, and do it all with apparent effortlessness. She inhabits her roles with generous compassion and an immediate likability. But little has endeared Diaz more to the legions of her fans than her amazing grace after breaking up with long-time boyfriend Justin Timberlake in 2007. Rather than wasting time with a pity party, Diaz dressed for the red carpet and decided that revenge is a dish best served in hot dresses and hotter heels. Diaz said in an Us magazine interview, “I like boys — a lot. I’m boy crazy. That hasn’t changed since I was very young.” You have to admit, Diaz’s forthright, healthy attitude toward dating is just … cool. On-screen or off, Diaz is a kick-ass role model for knowing how to enjoy a singular life.

To create the thesis write referring to this topic wasn’t very easy though you deal with this. When every single writer was like, scholars would never have problems with the dissertation writing service.
