Check out our list of ways to celebrate when you’re single in Southern California, from casual to crazy – and best wishes from Singular magazine and SingularCity for a singularly Happy New Year in 2012!
We singulars are a diverse group. But one thing we try to avoid, especially on New Year’s Eve, is being surrounded by couples who really need to “get a room” instead of subjecting us to the sight of them slurping on each other as we sip our champagne and try to converse with our friends.
Although you never know who will end up kissing whom when the clock strikes midnight, here are our suggestions for some fun ways to bring in 2012. (Note that you must be at least 21 years old to attend these events.)
NYE Twenty Twelve at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica
Presented by radio station KCRW and held in the tented “backyard” of the posh Viceroy Hotel, this is the party where Los Angeles networking group EOW and the single woman’s guide to Los Angeles dating, Three Day Rule, will convene to celebrate the start of 2012.
The party starts at 9 p.m. and lasts until 1:30 a.m. Included: an open bar, hors d‘oeurves and three top KCRW DJs spinning mixes as you dance the night away on the covered swimming pools. Exclusive private cabanas can be rented for the evening and include dedicated platters of food plus bottle service. The expected age range is 28 – 45.
The tickets are $170 each, plus service charge. Click here to purchase your ticket.
New Years Eve 2012 at The Parlor in Hollywood
Los Angeles singular event planner Renee Simlak is hosting a New Year’s Eve bash at The Parlor, an upscale sports bar at 7250 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90046. Since it’s at a man-friendly environment, this event will likely not incur the not-enough-men-at-the-party problem.
Tickets are $35 if purchased before 12/29 and $40 after, and includes all-night drink specials, a champagne toast at midnight and an appetizer buffet with a taco bar, mac and cheese, truffle French fries and ale-glazed meatballs.
Revelers can wander through three rooms, warm up next to the fire pits on the patio and dance to music from DJ Grace. The expected age range is 25 – 45. The festivities go from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Click here to purchase tickets.
New Year’s Eve with Pink Martini at the Disney Concert Hall
For those seeking an elegant New Year’s celebration, back by popular demand, Pink Martini will perform at the Disney Concert Hall at 111 South Grand Avenue in Los Angeles, CA 90012. Known for their unforgettable fusion of Brazilian samba, 1930s Cuban dance and Parisian café music, Pink Martini, mixed inside the Disney Hall, will make for an intoxicating New Year’s cocktail.
We suggest that you create your own party with a few of your singular friends, starting with dinner at one of the many nearby restaurants then walking over to the concert hall for the show that starts at 7 p.m. There is a second performance at 10:30 p.m.
Ticket prices range from $78 to $209. Click here to see a listing of nearby restaurants and then create your own singular New Year’s celebration.

Now, if “Hollywood/Las Vegas” hasn’t scared you off yet, read on.
The event starts at 8 pm and lasts until 2 am and your ticket includes a midnight countdown show, several fully stocked bars, multiple DJs and dance floors spinning house, hip-hop, electro and Top 40.
