Playa http://playarivera.com expresses a relaxed, urban Latin vibe as envisioned by its chef/owner John Rivera Sedlar, named Chef of the Year by Esquire magazine.
With skylights and sun-wells in its 20-foot ceiling, its open tortilla bar, its glassed-in kitchen and the dazzling effect of the restaurant’s new all-glass façade facing the cosmopolitan traffic flow of Beverly Boulevard, Playa offers sun-drenched dining by day and dining by the moonlight and stars at night.
For our tasting and sipping enjoyment, we’ll experience Playa’s “Local’s Hour” with specially priced cocktails, beer and wine, along with half-priced appetizers.
Those appetizers include Piquillos Rellenos made with Spanish piquillo peppers, gruyere, golden raisins and chorizo for just $4.50 and Maize Cake Jewish with smoked salmon, crème fraiche, Bermuda onion, caperberry and lime for $6 – just two of the delicious possibilities.
To quench our thirst, a choice of three $9 mixologist masterpiece cocktails:
— Tequila Daisy made with lemon juice, curacao, house made grenedine, blanco tequila.
— Beer and a Ball made with aperitivi, muddled grapefruit, sage, fresh lime, and topped with hops infused champagne.
— Ivy Maid made with vodka, cucumber, mint, fresh lime, simple syrup.
And for those who prefer beer or wine: Acme Pale Ale, Scrimshaw Lager, Rodolfo Pinot Noir and Blue Plate Chenin Blanc are just $7.
